Even the appearance of a conflict can adversely affect both the reputation of UT Health San Antonio and the individuals involved.<\/p>\n<h5>Conflicts of Interest are mainly seen in three forms:<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Financial Conflict of Interest<\/li>\n<li>Research Conflict of Interest<\/li>\n<li>Institutional Conflict of Interest<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator style=&#8221;double&#8221; border_width=&#8221;3&#8243; css=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h5>Examples of Outside Activities:<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>All outside employment or other compensated activities<\/li>\n<li>Any financial interest in an entity whose business is in the academic, research, or health care fields<\/li>\n<li>Income related to intellectual property rights when the income is received from an entity other than UT Health San Antonio<\/li>\n<li>Outside Activities and financial interests of family members where there is a work-related direct or indirect interaction between the employee and their family member<\/li>\n<li>Any externally funded or reimbursed travel costs by a for-profit or foreign entity; including, but not limited to, transportation (air and ground), hotel accommodations, travel insurance, meals, incidentals, or out-of-pocket expenses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator style=&#8221;double&#8221; border_width=&#8221;3&#8243; css=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h5>Reporting Frequency<\/h5>\n<p>Submit a Disclosure Statement through the electronic disclosure system:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Within 30 days of the start of employment;<\/li>\n<li>Within 30 days of transferring into a new position at UTHSA;<\/li>\n<li>Annually;<\/li>\n<li>Within 30 days of the discontinuation of an outside activity or financial interest<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;] \n        <a class=\"callout panel-mobile text-center color blue\" href=\"https:\/\/erms2.uthscsa.edu\" target=\"_blank\" >\n            <h3 class=\" \">Submit a Pre-Approval Request<\/h3>\n        <\/a>[vc_separator border_width=&#8221;3&#8243; css=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;854&#8243; css=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_separator border_width=&#8221;3&#8243; css=&#8221;&#8221;] \n        <a class=\"callout panel-mobile text-center colorized\" href=\"https:\/\/erms2.uthscsa.edu\" target=\"_blank\" >\n            <h3 class=\"ruled \">Submit a Disclosure<\/h3><p>ERMS-COI<\/p>\n        <\/a>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row el_class=&#8221;roomy&#8221;][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;] Conflict of Interest Disclosures In general, a conflict of interest arises when external activities have the potential to influence an individual in a manner that introduces real or perceived bias into their work.
