Dear Faculty and Staff:
In recent days, leadership of our country, state and city have begun planning about how and when to re-open our economy with a focus on the health of all. Today, Governor Abbott announced a phased re-opening approach for Texas which includes, importantly for UT Health San Antonio, the loosening of some restrictions related to our clinical practice (Abbott’s Executive Order).
The leadership of UT Health San Antonio has also begun in-depth planning for a return, as much as possible, to pre-COVID-19 operations. There are many factors that affect our decision due to the complexity of our enterprise and thus we are taking a careful approach with, as our guiding principle, the health and welfare of our patients, students, faculty and staff.
Although we are not yet ready to roll out a full return-to-work plan for all employees, the Deans and other leaders responsible for the mission areas of education, research and clinical care are meeting with working groups to identify what conditions need to be met to have employees return to campus and how we might operate given our new reality. I anticipate an announcement regarding UT Health San Antonio’s return to work status will be made soon.
I continue to be very grateful for the extraordinary efforts of so many of you as we navigate these uncharted waters. Our missions of education, research and clinical care are vital to our region and nation, and we will continue to serve our community well in all of these domains in the days ahead. Thank you for all you do to make lives better.
With admiration and respect,
William L. Henrich, M.D., M.A.C.P.
President and Professor of Medicine
