{"id":333,"date":"2019-04-08T19:26:15","date_gmt":"2019-04-08T19:26:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.uthscsa.edu\/heb-clinical\/?page_id=333"},"modified":"2024-08-16T14:14:56","modified_gmt":"2024-08-16T19:14:56","slug":"standardized-patient-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.uthscsa.edu\/heb-clinical\/standardized-patient-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Standardized Patient Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div id=\"pagehead_2col\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"content\">\n<div class=\"boxed\">\n<h2 class=\"title2\">Standardized Patient Program Overview<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A Standardized\/Simulated Patient (SP) is an individual trained to portray an actual patient with a specific condition in a realistic, standardized, and repeatable way; where portrayal\/presentation varies only with the learners\u2019 performance.<\/li>\n<li>SPs teach and assess<br \/>\n\u25cb \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0History taking<br \/>\n\u25cb \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Physical examination techniques<br \/>\n\u25cb \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Communication skills<br \/>\n\u25cb \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Interpersonal skills<\/li>\n<li>SPs are hourly employees. Work schedules vary with the training needs of our learners. There are periods during the semester when SPs work three to four times a week (normally in 3 to 4-hour sessions) and other times when work is unavailable.<\/li>\n<li>Realism is important for simulation; we must assign cases based on physical and personality characteristics. This means we often work cases where a specific age range, body habitus, and\/or gender are required.<\/li>\n<li>An SP may not work a case with a scar that could interfere with the realism of the scenario being portrayed.
