LINC Assessment Council

The LINC Assessment Council is comprised of Directors of Academic Assessment and Compliance from each of UT Health San Antonio’s Schools and experts in quantitative and qualitative analysis. The LINC Assessment Council advances QEP goals via the systematic measurement of interprofessional education (IPE) outcomes to meet growing accreditation expectations. Members contributed to the creation of charges that guide the Council’s work, which include identifying best practices in IPE assessment and evaluation; developing, administering, and analyzing and disseminating results from the LINC Core IPE Measurement Plan; creating and implementing faculty & staff development workshops on IPE measurement; and, supporting IPE measurement needs associated with LINC programs and projects.

Andrea E. Berndt, Ph.D.

Andrea Berndt, Ph.D., is a tenured associate professor and faculty member at the SON, with almost 30 years of experience teaching research and statistics courses in undergraduate, master’s, DNP, and PhD programs. Dr. Berndt earned her Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology with a minor in Psychometrics in 1998 from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Her statistical expertise includes univariate and multivariate statistical analysis, with extensive training in structural equation modeling and hierarchical linear modeling. Dr. Berndt’s research expertise is in quantitative methodology, measurement theory, instrument development, test validation, and institutional research. In the School of Nursing, Dr. Berndt serves as the School Statistician and collaborates with faculty, students, staff, and community stakeholders on program evaluation and assessment, quality improvement projects, and conduct and interpretation of research studies. Dr. Berndt has served on numerous master’s theses and doctoral dissertations as a chair and/or committee member in the School of Nursing, the School of Dentistry, and in the Graduate School for Biomedical Sciences. Since 2014, Dr. Berndt has co-taught “Art Rounds”, an interdisciplinary elective that brings students and faculty together from the School of Health Professions, the School of Nursing, and the Long School of Medicine along with museum educators from the McNay Museum, to learn visual observation skills that provide unique perspectives and ways of understanding to communicate with patients and other healthcare professionals.

Dr. Berndt serves as LINC’s Interprofessional Education (IPE) Evaluation Coordinator and leads the LINC Assessment Council, which includes working with faculty and staff members on administration, analysis, reporting, and scholarly dissemination associated with the LINC Core IPE Measurement Plan. In addition, Dr. Berndt also contributes expertise to the design, implementation, analysis, and reporting of evaluation plans associated with programs and projects across LINC Councils.

As Director of Curriculum Evaluation, I oversee ongoing assessment, evaluation, and reporting efforts primarily in the preclinical phase of the curriculum. I ensure that all components of the educational cycle for medical students are meeting stated goals and learning outcomes, as well as to identify opportunities for program improvement and enhanced student success.

Dana Kiefer English Ed.D., M.S., RDH

Dana English, Ed.D., M.S., RDH, practiced dental hygiene for twenty-five years, specializing in Geriatric care, prior to entering academia in 2008. Upon joining the faculty of the UT Health San Antonio’s (UTHSA) division of dental hygiene, Dana taught pre-clinic, clinic, and developed graduate online curriculum in addition to creating geriatric curriculum.  In 2014, Dana was invited to join the UTHSA Online and Blended Learning department as an Educational Development Specialist where she provided course design, professional development, and led the University’s learning management system transition from BlackBoard to Canvas.

In 2015, Dr. English joined the UTHSA School of Dentistry charged to assist in the creation of an integrated dental curriculum which would align with the new National Board. In 2018, Dr. English received her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership with a specialization in Educational Technology and was promoted to Assistant Dean of Education and Faculty Development. Other degrees and certifications include, Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene/education, Master of Science in dental hygiene/education, and certifications in Quality Matters, applying the rubric, QM-Certified Course reviewer and certification in Flipped Classroom.

Nancy K. Hernandez is the Senior Director of Academic Affairs in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. In this role, Ms. Hernandez oversees the assessment initiatives that include course evaluations, student learning outcomes and program reviews. In addition, Ms. Hernandez ensures that the GSBS remains in compliance with all federal, state, system and internal regulations and reporting. Ms. Hernandez has over 20 years of experience in higher education with over 10 years in institutional research and data analysis. Ms. Hernandez is dedicated to working with faculty and program directors in developing plans and devising strategies to continuously improve program performance

Venessa Kodosky, PhD, MEd, is an associate professor and Director of Academic Assessment, Compliance and Special Projects in the School of Health Professions. Dr. Kodosky oversees assessments, program evaluations, and reporting efforts to ensure that all elements of the assessment cycle are reviewed to identify opportunities for program improvement and enhanced student success.  Dr. Kodosky has over 15 years of experience in education with over 10 years in educational research and data analysis.

Beth Wueste, MAEd, C-TAGME, LSSBB, is the Director, Academic Assessment and Compliance at UT Health San Antonio in the School of Nursing Office for Academic Affairs. Beth has been with UT Health San Antonio for 20 years and worked in Graduate Medical Education from 2002-2022 as a medical educator and researcher before moving into nursing education. In her current role she oversees all academic assessment activities and ensures compliance with all assessment and accreditation reporting requirements for the School of Nursing. She executes and administers the research, collection, and verification of data that is used for long range planning decisions. She updates and improves, assessment related tools and measures, program student learning outcomes, program reviews, the Strategic Plan and the Total Program Systematic Evaluation Plan of Academic Affairs. She provides research and evaluation of institutional issues that may include programs such as enrollment, alumni, assessment, faculty, and financial aid. Beth uses her expertise to select appropriate statistical software packages and performs various analyses to ensure the SON is focused on continuous improvement. She interfaces with and provides technical expertise on various databases and designs menu driven protocols for data access. For accreditation she plans, organize, and facilitates visits and review by external regulators for the SON and its programs. This includes the coordination and submission of all quality improvement, self-study, changes and approvals for SON programs to national accreditation agencies. In her compliance role she tracks all accreditation reports, notifications, approvals, and visits while working on an annual audit of standards and requirements at various levels.  Finally, as a member of the UT community she serves as a representative of the institution, both internally and externally. She participates in institutional, school, advisory and program committees, campus activities and represent the SON across the institution.
