LINC Clinical Research Initiative

The LINC Clinical Research Initiative is a team comprised of faculty from multiple schools at UT Health San Antonio dedicated to advancing interprofessional models of care for patients and their families based on existing evidence and stakeholders’ perspectives. The team aims to develop, implement, and study models of interprofessional care that simultaneously deliver positive outcomes for patients and their families while providing opportunities for interprofessional education and research.

Fiscal Year 2025 Charges

Foster relationships with practice site partners to develop and implement a pilot interprofessional care model.

Refine prospectus of potential funding opportunities to support the development and/or implementation of a pilot interprofessional care model.

Develop and submit three extramural grant proposals to support the work of the Initiative.

Present outcomes from the Initiative’s scoping review of the literature completed in FY24 at a national conference.

Submit manuscript describing outcomes from the Initiative’s scoping review of the literature completed in FY24 to a peer-reviewed journal.

Dr. Cathy Torrington Eaton, PhD, CCC-SLP is an Assistant Professor and certified speech-language pathologist (SLP) with the Department of Communication Sciences in the School of Health Professions at UT Health. Her research and scientific interests center on the neurorehabilitation of patients with aphasia, communication partner training, goal writing in speech-language pathology and teaching and learning in graduate education.  She plays a vital role in clinical training programs that prepare graduate SLP clinicians as well as students across healthcare professions to work with adult patients with communication disorders. Dr. Eaton is very active in the aphasia community, serving pivotal roles as the director of San Antonio Network for Aphasia (SANA), the UT Health Aphasia Summer Program, and the Communication Clinic at the Glen Biggs Institute of Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Disease. She has been an invited speaker at local, national and international conferences, and is a champion of health care accessibility, interprofessional collaboration, and communication quality of life.

Noorpreet Kaur, B.D.S, M.P.H has focused on improving oral health care for individuals with disabilities and medical complexities as well as teaching various public health courses. She currently serves as the Communications Officer for the Academy of Dentistry for Person with Disabilities Board, Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA) national organization.

Dr. Kaur received her MPH in Global Health Leadership at New York University School of Global Public Health. After receiving her BDS, Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Kurukshetra University BRS Institute of Medical Sciences Dental College and Hospital, she worked as an associate dentist at Advanced Orthodontic Dental Clinic in Chandigarh, India for 2 years. She led oral health school-based screening programs and outreach working with the Institute for the Blind during her time there. After receiving her BDS and completing a one-year Nobel Bio-care Dental Implant Fellowship in Implant and Esthetic Dentistry in North India, she completed graduate research on neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) and explored the connection between NETs and implant osseointegration at Harvard University Extension School. The lack of access to oral health care and vastly different hospital environments has influenced her desire for public health, attention to long-term outcomes, and advocacy in getting the appropriate laws in place. Her time learning from the overall diversity of the public health community, working with UN agencies, and the issues in global pediatric oral health has given her a great respect for the discovery and communication to practice public health. Her passion involves special needs dentistry and oral health policy.

Rebecca Moote, Pharm.D., M.Sc., BCPS, serves as the IPE Scholarship Dissemination Coordinator for Linking Interprofessional Networks for Collaboration (LINC), at UT Health San Antonio. Dr. Moote is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Texas College of Pharmacy and has an adjunct appointment with the Department of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio. She also serves as the Assistant Division Head of the Pharmacotherapy Division for the UT College of Pharmacy. Dr. Moote received her Doctor of Pharmacy in 2007 from The University of Texas at Austin and her Master of Science in Pharmacy and Advanced Practice Pharmacotherapy Specialty Residency at the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas in 2009. She started her academic career at Regis University in Denver Colorado where she was promoted to Associate Professor. Dr. Moote maintains an active practice as a clinical internal medicine pharmacist at University Hospital.

Dr. Moote has been involved in interprofessional education as part of her teaching, service and research since 2009. She has created IPE teaching materials and curricula for orientation events, palliative care and medical surgical simulations and co-curricular experiences. She has received grant funding for interprofessional projects and was awarded a LINC Seed Grant in 2020 for clinical interprofessional education for dental and pharmacy students to optimize pain management prescribing in a dental surgical setting. She currently serves on the LINC Faculty Council’s Clinical IPE workgroup and has provided faculty development training with this group for the last two years. She has multiple publications in interprofessional education as well as two book chapters and has presented her work on interprofessional education at a national level. She also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Interprofessional Education and Practice.

Jeff Lacy, M.L.I.S., M.A., is a librarian at UT Health San Antonio where he liaises with the School of Dentistry, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and LINC. He provides expertise in library research and resources, information literacy, and principles of evidence-based practice. Jeff also contributes to LINC’s Co-curricular IPE Initiative.
