Cardiovascular and Cardiopulmonary Services

Our Divisions of Cardiology and Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine, in partnership with the Divisions of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, excel in all areas of cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary care.  Highlights include state-of-the-art care of patients with structural heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, supplemented in recent years by nationally-recognized Centers of Excellence in both interstitial lung disease and adult cystic fibrosis.

At the Medical Art and Research Center and Texas Diabetes Institute, the Division of Diabetes provides care that integrates outstanding clinical services with internationally renowned clinical research.

Digestive Disease

Collaboration between the Division of Gastroenterology, the Department of Surgery, the Liver Transplant Center and the Texas Liver Institute provides a full spectrum of care for patients with gastrointestinal disorders, with notable expertise in advanced and emerging endoscopic procedures, pancreatobiliary disease and chronic liver disease.

This program integrates outstanding clinical care with research in aging conducted by the nationally recognized Barshop Institute and the Geriatrics Research and Education Center of the South Texas Veterans’ Health Care System.

Working in collaboration with surgical colleagues in the highly regarded University Transplant Center, the Department’s faculty play an integral role in the pre-operative and post-operative interdisciplinary management of patients who have undergone liver, kidney and lung transplantation.

Primary Care

Faculty of the Division of General Medicine deliver state-of-the-art primary care at the UHS Robert B. Green Campus.  They also partner with faculty colleagues in the Division of Geriatrics and the Department of Family and Community Medicine to provide evidence-based longitudinal, comprehensive care in the UT Health Physicians Primary Care Center, a growing network of primary care clinics now operating out of six sites around San Antonio.
