Neonatal Transport Services

Our Neonatal Transport Team has been providing emergent transport of critically ill neonates 24 hours a day throughout the South Texas Region since 1995. A multidisciplinary team of specially trained transport nurses and respiratory therapists help us stabilize newborns with life-threatening conditions to ensure the best outcome. For critically ill babies, a neonatal nurse practitioner or physician accompanies the transport team. All of our transports are supervised by faculty neonatologists board-certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

We provide special transport isolettes equipped with the latest technology including High Frequency and Conventional Ventilators, Nitric Oxide, High Flow Nasal Cannula, passive whole body cooling, phototherapy, and cardio-respiratory monitoring. Two transport teams are available by helicopter, designated aeromedical aircraft, or ground ambulance carriers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Neonatal Transport Team will determine and provide the quickest, safest route from community hospitals throughout South Texas to University Hospital’s Level IV NICU.

Physician to physician consultations are available 24 hours a day, providing guidance to community physicians in complex medical situations. We provide consultation support to all physicians and advanced practitioners, even if neonatal transport is not required or recommended. Consultations are directly with the neonatologist by phone or specialized Telemedicine interface where available.
