Reminders for Conrad 30 Recipients

If you are a clinical faculty member at UT Health San Antonio and a Conrad 30 Waiver recipient, you are responsible for understanding and complying with the requirements to fulfill the waiver. Please refer to the Texas Primary Care Office, Conrad 30 J-1 Visa Waiver Policy Manual, as well as the USCIS for more information.

After your H-1B petition has been approved, make sure to schedule an appointment with your OIS advisor to obtain the approval notice and review requirements to maintain H-1B status. In addition, as a Conrad 30 Waiver recipient, please pay attention to the following reminders:

  • In order to fulfill your waiver requirement, you must work full-time (a minimum of 40 hours a week) for a continuous three years at the underserved location.
  • If you provide services at any other UT Health San Antonio location, this work must be in addition to the 40 hours a week and that location must have been included in the H-1B petition filed on your behalf.
  • Make sure to familiarize yourself with the conditions set forth in your signed employment contract.
  • If your employment at UT Health San Antonio is anticipated to continue beyond the end date of your three-year H-1B petition, your department/division must request an extension of your H-1B status and submit appropriate documentation approximately 6-7 months in advance of the expiration date.
  • It is possible for your department/division to begin the process of sponsoring you for employment-based permanent residency and to obtain an I-140 approval notice on your behalf during the three-year Conrad 30 waiver period. However, you are ineligible to file Form I-485 to apply to adjust to the status of lawful permanent resident until you have completed the Conrad 30 Waiver requirements.
  • If you fail to fulfill the terms and conditions imposed on the waiver, you and your dependents will once again become subject to the two-year home residency requirement.
