International Travel to High-Risk Areas<\/h2>\n

Per the\u00a0University of Texas System (UTS) Policy 190<\/a>, any faculty or staff member, student, postdoctoral fellow, medical resident, clinical fellow, and person in any other role officially associated with the university who is traveling pursuant to university business (regardless of if funding is provided) or on a university sponsored program to a country with a U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory<\/a> Level 3 or higher, and where the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) Travel Health Notices<\/a> is level 4 must submit a waiver to the Office of International Services for the International Oversight Committee (IOC) to review and approve prior to travel.<\/p>\n

In some cases, certain areas within countries classified as Level 2 have regions of elevated risk (at a Level 3 or 4). Thus, UT Health San Antonio may also require international travel waivers based on the specific locality of travel.<\/p>\n

International Travel Process<\/h2>\n

Visit the Office of International Services Sharepoint<\/a>, and under the accordion select the International Travel Waiver for Faculty, Staff, and Students Travel to Restricted Regions tab.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

Executive Order GA-48<\/h2>\n

In compliance with Governor Greg Abbott\u2019s Executive Order EO-GA-48<\/a>, employees are required to provide information on personal travel to one of the six (6) identified countries designated by the by the U.S. Department of Commerce as foreign adversaries under 15. C.F.R. Section 791.4.\u00a0 Currently, those countries are as follows:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Republic of China, including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macau Special Administrative Region (China)<\/li>\n
  2. Republic of Cuba (Cuba)<\/li>\n
  3. Islamic Republic of Iran (Iran)<\/li>\n
  4. Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea)<\/li>\n
  5. Russian Federation (Russia); and<\/li>\n
  6. Venezuelan politician Nicol\u00e1s Maduro (Maduro Regime).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Employees are responsible for timely reporting international travel to their supervisors and for completing a Pre-travel (7 days prior to travel) and Post-travel brief (no later than 10 days following your travel).<\/p>\n

    The risk of data breaches while traveling abroad is great. In addition to the possibility of physical loss of devices, factors such as digital espionage, Customs & Border Protection\u2019s ability to copy the contents of laptops, and limits to traveling with encrypted devices, increase the possibility of exposing sensitive data.<\/p>\n
