The updated forms are part of USCIS implementation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2026\/07\/17\/2026-14439\/establishing-a-fixed-time-period-of-admission-and-an-extension-of-stay-procedure-for-nonimmigrant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Final Rule-Establishing a Fixed Time Period of Admission and an Extension of Stay Procedure<\/a> for F and J nonimmigrants.<\/p>\n<p>There will be <strong>no grace period<\/strong> for using the new forms. Applicants must use the correct form edition based on when the application is filed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/i-539\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Form I-539<\/a>: Application to Extend\/Change Nonimmigrant Status\n<ul>\n<li>USCIS will accept the 08\/28\/24 edition if it is filed before September 15, 2026.<\/li>\n<li>USCIS will accept the 09\/15\/26 edition beginning September 15, 2026.<\/li>\n<li>The older 08\/28\/24 edition will not be accepted if filed on or after September 15, 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/i-765\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Form I-765<\/a>: Application for Employment Authorization\n<ul>\n<li>USCIS will accept the 08\/21\/25 edition if it is filed before September 15, 2026.<\/li>\n<li>USCIS will accept the 09\/15\/26 edition beginning September 15, 2026.<\/li>\n<li>The older 08\/21\/25 edition will not be accepted if filed on or after September 15, 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong> Do not submit the 09\/15\/26 editions before September 15, 2026.
