The subject will change but the phish is real. This phish is posing as a notification to ensure the recipient actually authorized this payment. But the phone number they ask the recipient to call to cancel is not Venmo customer service. The scammer will answer the phone call and be all too happy to help the caller get this matter cleared up. During that time, they will gather important Personally Identifiable Information about you. They might even ask for a bank card so they can “credit” your account.<\/p>\n
If you get an email stating you are going to or have already paid for something you didn’t do, always search for the Customer Service Number of the real company (Venmo, Paypal, Home Depot….). All of these companies are being used in this same way to make someone believe this a transaction they need to fix.<\/p>\n
