The Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology Fellowship participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). The following requirements must be met in order to apply:

  • Applications for the fellowship training program must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents of the U.S., or J-1 Visa Holders for fellowship positions at UT Health San Antonio. We do not accept applications from H1B1 visa holders.
  • Courses in conducting research are available to help fellows interested in research.
  • We alternate between accepting 2 fellows and 1 fellow every other year.

Structure and Curriculum

Our Rheumatology fellows provide inpatient consultation for University Hospital and the Audie Murphy VA Hospital. The outpatient clinical experience includes weekly continuity clinics at the Audie Murphy VA Hospital, Robert B. Green Clinic, and Lupus Clinic at the MARC. In addition, fellows also rotate in specialty clinics including the Gout Clinic and the MSK Ultrasound Clinic at the Audie Murphy VA Hospital. We also have weekly Rheumatology Grand Rounds on Thursdays and a weekly Rheumatology Board Review session on Tuesdays.

Graduates

Each year, approximately 80% of our graduating fellows choose to enter private practice, while the remainder pursue academic positions at leading institutions.
