Many cancer risk genes are involved in repair of damage to DNA that occurs due to exposure to microenvironmental or environmental carcinogens, aging, and cell division. Researchers at UTHSA are performing paradigm-shifting research into mechanisms of DNA damage repair, with a major focus on the function of BRCA1, BRCA2 and their interacting partners.
