Dr. Babatunde “Kay” Oyajobi is a tenured Professor in the Department of Cell Systems & Anatomy with cross-appointments in the departments of Medicine and Molecular Medicine in the Long School of Medicine (LSOM). He was until August 2020, the Deputy Chair for Education & Training in the department of Cell Systems & Anatomy. He has served as the Director of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs since February 2021. Since 2012, Dr. Oyajobi has been involved extensively with training and has served as PI and Program Director (PD) for several NIH and CPRIT-funded training grants. Dr. Oyajobi has been recipient of multiple honors for his teaching and mentorship internally and externally including a Presidential Teaching Excellence Award in 2018 and induction into the University of Texas System Kenneth Shine Academy of Health Science Education in 2021. He was also recognized as a LSOM Academy of Educational Scholars (AES) STAR Educator in 2023. He served from 2017 to 2020 as an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Cancer Biology Training Consortium (CABTRAC), a national organization established to facilitate exchange of ideas between research-intensive institutions dedicated to the mission of training the next generation of cancer researchers. He is currently an elected member of the American Association of Medical Colleges Group on Research, Education and Training (AAMC GREAT) – Postdoctoral Section. Following medical training in Nigeria, Dr. Oyajobi received a M.S. degree with distinction in Clinical Biochemistry from the University of Leeds and Ph.D. degree in Human Metabolism & Clinical Biochemistry from the University of Sheffield, both in the U.K. He also has a M.B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He joined the faculty here at the Health Science Center in 2001 following postdoctoral training in Sheffield, Paris and San Antonio.
