Our Purpose
The Research Mentoring Academy (RMA) is comprised of faculty who are committed to advancing a culture of effective, evidence-based research mentoring at UT Health San Antonio. The purpose of the RMA is to serve as a central resource and framework for strengthening mentoring practices across schools, departments, and programs. The Academy supports the creation, improvement, and sustainability of research mentoring initiatives by:
- Providing guidance for designing and implementing mentoring structures
- Empowering faculty, especially early-career faculty, to build and shape effective mentoring relationships
- Offering targeted resources for mentors and mentees
Our Mission
To foster a culture of effective, evidence-based mentoring across UT Health San Antonio that advances research, education, and leadership development. We aim to equip mentors with the skills and resources necessary to mentor trainees, drive scientific discovery, career advancement, and institutional excellence.
Our Goals
- Develop Mentoring Skills: Provide training, workshops, and tools that enhance communication, career guidance, research integrity, and leadership for mentors.
- Support Mentoring Up: Provide resources to mentees to strengthen mentoring relationships that enhance communication with mentors, career goal setting, and growing leadership skills as the next generation of mentors.
- Promote Collaboration and Retention: Strengthen institutional culture through cross-disciplinary connections and support for faculty retention.
- Expand Mentoring Access: Ensure mentoring opportunities reach faculty and trainees of all career stages, disciplines, and backgrounds.
- Sustain and Celebrate Mentoring Culture: Continuously evaluate and refine mentoring initiatives to align with evolving community needs.
