Dr. Chris Frei leads the Pharmacotherapy Division at the UT Austin College of Pharmacy and the Pharmacotherapy Education and Research Center at the UT Health San Antonio School of Medicine. He also directs the multidisciplinary joint Translational Science Ph.D. Program, involving four UT institutions in the Austin and San Antonio areas. The TS PhD program recruits physicians, pharmacists, nurses, dentists, and others with professional doctoral and master’s degrees, and trains them to conduct innovative clinical and translational research. He also co-directs the Translational Science Training (TST) Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Programs. Dr. Frei oversees an independent research program focusing on population health, pharmacoepidemiology, and health outcomes research, often with patients who receive care in U.S. Veterans Affairs hospitals and clinics. He has co-authored 158 peer-reviewed papers, 7 book chapters, and 463 abstract/poster/platform presentations. He has also supervised 20 graduate students and more than 200 faculty members. Finally, he has been recognized as “Mentor of the Year” by the Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists; “Young Investigator of the Year” by the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists; and “Distinguished Young Alumnus of the Year,” “Outstanding Alumnus,” “Graduate Teacher and Mentor of the Year,” and “Faculty Mentor of the Year” by the UT Austin College of Pharmacy. He is a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. Finally, he serves as an Ambassador for the NIH Loan Repayment Program.
