Professor and Vice Chair, Department of Biochemistry & Structural Biology
Dr. Jean Jiang is Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Biochemistry and Structural Biology and the Holder of the Zachry Distinguished University Chair at UT Health San Antonio. Her research focuses on mechanotransduction and connexin channels and cell signaling in bone, eye, and cancer biology, with the goal of uncovering fundamental cellular communication mechanisms and translating them into therapeutic strategies. Dr. Jiang is also deeply committed to graduate education and mentorship. She has served as Associate Director of the joint UTSA–UT Health Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program, chaired the Committee on Graduate Committees, and mentored numerous students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty. She received the 2023 Postdoctoral Mentor of the Year Award and has been repeatedly invited to serve as a mentor in national programs.
