Revised Postdoc Policy Forthcoming

Postdoctoral Research Fellows, Faculty, and Administrative Staff

The Executive Committee of the UT Health San Antonio has recently approved new policies for postdoctoral research fellows effective September 1, 2019 with full implementation by January 1, 2020. Important features of the policy are summarized below:

Define postdoctoral research fellow / establish minimum salary

  • < 5 years in postdoctoral research training (at any location)
  • Minimum salary set at NIH NRSA minimum (currently, $50,004)
  • A single payroll class for all postdoctoral research fellows

Required for appointment:

  • Offer letter
  • Official transcripts, translated as necessary
  • Documentation of English language proficiency

Required activities for postdoctoral research fellows:

  • Participation in new postdoctoral research fellow orientation
  • Completion of annual evaluation
  • Preparation of an Individual Development Plan with annual updates
  • Training in Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
  • Training in Rigor and Reproducibility

For postdoctoral fellows, your mentoring faculty member and the department/institute/center associated with your primary appointment will help you understand personnel actions that affect you.

Revisions to HOP policy 4.3.9 are forthcoming. In the meantime, please contact the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs or the Office of International Services with questions.
