Visa Appointment Cancellations in India

Due to increasing COVID-19 cases in India, the US Embassy and Consulates have issued a notice that they are cancelling visa appointments through May 15th in New Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. Cancelled appointments are not being rescheduled at this time. Emergency appointments will be conducted but will be reliant on available staff.

The US Consulate in Mumbai will still service U.S. citizens and permit interview waiver applications. It will also continue visa services for emergency nonimmigrant and immigrant.

US Embassies and Consulates outside of India continue to operate with minimal staff. Applicants may expect visa backlogs as these locations operate with reduced staff and few appointment slots. These are precautions that they are taking due to COVID-19. Some of these locations may only be open for emergency appointments.

International travel for individuals that have valid visa stamps should be aware of potential problems/restrictions, such as entering and/or leaving the country, required quarantine periods, and other restrictions that can be issued with little notice. It is recommended that travelers should educate themselves on the travel restrictions.

For our international visitors that are considering traveling, please make sure that you contact your International Advisor or email international@uthscsa.edu to discuss your plans and the implications of traveling at this time or in the future.

The Office of International Services will continue to monitor the situation and post updates as necessary.
