Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes! Time to Update OIS

The OIS team wants to remind you that there are times when you need to update our office as it relates to your immigration status.

  • Changing your status from your current visa to another visa category
    • Email your OIS advisor regarding the update and they will let you know the appropriate next steps to take.
  • Changing labs
    • Your new PI will work with their visa liaison to initiate the process with the OIS. This can take up to 30 days to approve.
  • Transferring out to another program/academic institution/employer
    • Need to work with your OIS advisor to make sure that the transfer process is a smooth as possible.
  • Recently traveled abroad
  • Moved
    • Notify the OIS within 10 days. Those that hold J-1 and F-1 status and that are sponsored by UT Health San Antonio, may update their record in the Student/Scholar International Portals. Those that hold another visa category, such as H-1B or TN, or on a J-1 or F-1 not sponsored by UT Health San Antonio, should email their OIS advisor regarding the update.
  • Received your waiver recommendation for the two-year home residency requirement
  • Ending your academic studies/research/employment
    • Contact your OIS advisor immediately.

Depending on the nature of the change, our office may have to take specific action with your immigration status. When in doubt, be sure to reach out to your OIS advisor. We are always here to help!
