What is FibroScan®?
Fibroscan® is a safe, rapid and non-invasive way to measure the stiffness of your liver. It uses elastography, which is a technique similar to ultrasound. FibroScan® emits a small pulse of energy, which may be felt as a slight vibration on your skin on the right side of your rib cage. The quicker the wave travels, the more stiff the liver, and the more scarring and damage there is.
How to Prepare for FibroScan® Exam
In order to get accurate results, patients need to be fasting (nothing to eat or drink) for 3 hours before the exam. FibroScan® is not recommended for people who are pregnant or have any active implantable electronic devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators.
Please contact your nearest FibroScan® location for more information regarding test costs.
