Our vision at the UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing is to “We make lives better by promoting access to health care for all.” The creation of the Foster Care Center of Excellence is an embodiment of that vision. Children and youth in foster and kinship care are an extremely vulnerable population who often have experienced significant emotional and sometimes physical trauma. We provide personalized health care to meet the medical, emotional, and behavioral health needs of foster children and their families. It is crucial that these children have easy access to high-quality medical care, delivered in a supportive, trauma-informed, and patient- and family-centered manner. We feel privileged to be part of the lives of these children and their foster care families.
