Karen Schwab, PhD, APRN, CPNP-PC, PMHS

Dr. Karen Schwab is a practicing pediatric nurse practitioner and Director of Pediatric Services at Wellness 360 at UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing. Dr. Schwab was instrumental in obtaining the designation of Foster Care Center of Excellence for the pediatric practice. She collaborates with community partners and leaders in the child welfare field to remove barriers to and gaps in care for this underserved population.

In 2022 she was awarded a large HRSA grant to expand best practices in foster care services throughout public health region 8. In addition to expanding foster care services the grant will also support foster families and the rural work force, and train future nurses to deliver person-centered equitable healthcare in underserved populations.

In her faculty role she mentors DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) students working on their quality improvement projects, PhD students working on their thesis, and she created and mentors an undergraduate student volunteer group in their additional pediatric clinical learning experiences.
