Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer

Ms. Tawney has served as the vice president and chief human resources officer for The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio since March 2018.

Ms. Tawney serves on the executive leadership team, developing talent strategies based on institutional needs and enabling leaders, faculty, and staff to deliver on the organization’s missions. Offerings encompass full employee life cycle and oversight of the human resources function for the institution. She is skilled in developing successful talent management strategies, culture, engagement, total rewards and learning and leadership development offerings and programs to attract, retain and grow a diverse talent pipeline while partnering with leaders across the organization to identify emerging strategic workforce planning needs and supporting transformation efforts.

As a collaborative and strategic leader, Ms. Tawney has more than 30 years of experience in a variety of industries. Previous experiences include serving as vice president of human resources, organization and talent effectiveness for Ascension, supporting 150,000 Ascension employees in 26 markets nationwide. She has also served as corporate director, human resources strategic services for Baylor Scott & White, comprised of 35,000 employees and held human resources roles supporting global and national operations at American Airlines, Avaya and LSG Sky Chefs. Prior to a career in human resources, she managed operations in Dallas-Fort Worth and established operations and a market presence in the United Kingdom with Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Ms. Tawney has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration in Organization Development from the University of Dallas Graduate School of Management. Certifications include Associate Certified Coach (ACC)TM, Certified Professional Coach (CPC), Senior Professional in HR (SPHR), the Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), EQ-i 2.0, Hogan Assessment Practitioner, MBTI and DDI Leadership Mirror Assessment.
