Ginny Gomez-Leon, MBA, CPA

Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Ms. Gomez-Leon has served as vice president and chief financial officer for The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio since 2020.

She is responsible for monitoring and evaluating the financial performance of the organization and its operations through metrics and financial measures in consultation with the senior executive vice president and chief operating officer and the president. Ms. Gomez-Leon works closely with the executive leadership team and The University of Texas System to accomplish financial goals and to maximize financial resources with the use of efficient internal and external financing strategies and operational efficiencies within many of UT Health Science Center San Antonio’s business and university departmental based units.

Ms. Gomez-Leon has served UT Health Science Center San Antonio, also called UT Health San Antonio, in increasingly responsible roles since 1997 when she joined the organization as an auditor. She quickly rose to interim director of the Office of Internal Audit in 1999. In 2000, she joined the Office of Budget and Financial Planning as a senior budget analyst working her way up to associate vice president in 2016 before being named vice president and chief financial officer in 2020. She serves as a principal architect of UT Health San Antonio’s $1.5 billion fiscal and budget strategy and is key to strategic investment and capital planning initiatives, helping to secure nearly $2 billion in external funding for capital projects during her tenure.

Ms. Gomez-Leon represents UT Health San Antonio on the Texas Association of College & University Business Officers (TACUBO) Primary Members Committee and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Formula Advisory Committee for Health-Related Institutions, advising on matters of interest to academic health centers, serves as the primary liaison to The University of Texas System administration offices, the Texas Legislative Budget Board, and other federal, state, and local agencies on budgetary and financial matters, and completed the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) Fellows Leadership Program.

Ms. Gomez-Leon is a certified public account and holds a Master of Business Administration from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio and earned a bachelor’s in business administration in accounting from The University of Texas at Austin.
