Michael Schnabel, MBA
Vice President and Chief Information Officer
Mr. Schnabel currently serves as interim vice president and chief information officer for UT Health San Antonio. Prior to his appointment in 2024, he served as the chief information security officer and assistant vice president of information security and operations at UT Health San Antonio since 2013.
As CIO he is responsible for the strategic direction of the organization’s information technology (IT) resources to support the mission and goals of the UT Health San Antonio enterprise. He assesses the organization’s information needs and ensures that the IT staff, infrastructure, and resources are aligned with user requirements. Monitoring changes, trends, and best practices in information technology, he serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.
Prior to joining UT Health San Antonio in 2013, Mr. Schnabel worked for City of Hope National Medical Center, where he transformed cybersecurity operations and information security assurance supporting City of Hope’s medical center, Beckman Research Institute, graduate school and philanthropy entities as their information security officer. Prior to his time at City of Hope, he worked in the financial sector, serving as senior vice president and chief information officer at Gateway Business Bank in California.
Mr. Schnabel holds an MBA in information technology management and a Bachelor of Science in cybersecurity and information assurance from Western Governor’s University.
