Executive Order Suspending Entry of Immigrants

Yesterday, President Trump signed an executive order that suspends entry of to the U.S. for immigrants. You can find a summary from the American Immigration Lawyers’ Association (AILA) here.

First and foremost, this executive order impacts those immigrant visa applications that are outside the U.S. and applying for lawful permanent residency status (also known as green cards) for a period of 60 days from the date the executive order goes into effect (April 23rd).

This does not impact our current international visitors at UT Health San Antonio as your visa classification is non-immigrant. Non-immigrant visa classifications included, but are not limited to: F-1 students, J-1 research scholars, J-1 clinical trainees, H-1B/TN/O-1/E-3 employees, etc.

For those international visitors whose department is sponsoring for lawful permanent residency, this executive order does not impact you as you are currently inside the U.S. Our office is able to continue the permanent residency sponsorship process. For more information regarding permanent residency, please read the information on our website.

Our office is ready and able to continue processing departmental visa requests. There are some exceptions at this time for new requests for those international visitors who are abroad due to U.S. consulates and embassies being closed. However, that does not stop our office from issuing documents for future arrival.

Important Information Regarding Traveling Outside the United States:

For our international visitors that are currently at UT Health San Antonio, we strongly advise that you not travel internationally at the present time. If you should have international travel plans in the near future, be sure to consult with your International Services Representative prior to travel. Most importantly, please note that many U.S. consulates and embassies are temporarily closed with the exception of allowing visa applications for medical professionals.
