This email below has been confirmed as malicious or fraudulent by the Information Security department. If you have received this phishing email, do not open any attachments or follow the link(s) in the message; simply delete the email.This phishing attack pretends to be from the Johns Hopkins Center. Attached to this email is a malicious Excel file titled ‘covid_usa_nyt_8072.xls’ that displays the number of Coronavirus-related deaths in the United States.
If the user opens the Excel attachment and clicks ‘Enable Content’, malicious macros install the NetSupport Manager client from a remote site, permitting attackers to gain remote access to their compromised machine.
