This email looks like it came from a member of our organization, but a scammer is using the name in an attempt to trick people into replying back. It seems harmless enough, but just replying back can tell the scammer they have the email address of someone who can be scammed. If I were to reply back to this email, the next email would ask me to do something for them. We have seen cases where the scammer is asking the person to buy virtual gift cards with their own money and be reimbursed. We have also seen cases where someone was asked to make a significant transfer of funds to an external person’s bank account.

The main thing you want to look for, when dealing with an email from someone asking for a favor, is to look at the line stating, “You don’t often get email from…..” This is a new security feature in our email that help identify the actual sender.
