Student, Student Benefit, or College Relief

This email below has been confirmed as malicious or fraudulent by the Information Security department. If you have received this phishing email, do not open any attachments or follow the link(s) in the message; simply delete the email.

This email was sent from a compromised account so it didn’t come from an external address. The scammer was successful at compromising an internal account and used that account to access the Global Address List and send emails to multiple people at the university.

Neither the sending email address or the contact email address listed were from a federal email address. If someone is stating there are federal funds available and asking for your personal information, that account would end in .gov. That doesn’t mean all email coming from .gov accounts are safe because, just like this one, it could be coming from a compromised account. But in this case, the email coming from a student account and referencing a Gmail account, is a  red flag.

Red Flag - sender does not have an email address ending in .gov
