This email below has been confirmed as malicious or fraudulent by the Information Security department. If you have received this phishing email, do not open any attachments or follow the link(s) in the message; simply delete the email.

This email has a couple red flags. The generic greeting is the first one. If someone is being awarded money, their name will be in the greeting. The other red flag is when we hover over the link. The domain name has nothing to do with the IRS. It is a company in India that helps provide health services to the less fortunate. Their website was likely compromised. When Jane Anne Dough clicked on that link, a virus was downloaded to her device and her email account began sending out this email to people in the Global Address List.

The final red flag is the IRS sending this email. The IRS won’t be sending email to a university account.

One thing that adds to this email’s credibility is the ID.ME is associated with the IRS. But all the other red flags show it is not a legitimate email.
