Document from HP LaserJet Pro Scanner

This email below has been confirmed as malicious or fraudulent by the Information Security department. If you have received this phishing email, do not open any attachments or follow the link(s) in the message; simply delete the email.

This email attempts to impersonate a notification from HP alerting the recipient that they have received a scanned document. The word document contained in the email contains a link to a website which attempts to impersonate hp.com. The URL was found to contain malware. Below are the red flags:

  • Suspicious Attachment: Attachments are the most common vector for embedded malware. It is always best to be cautious about any attachments that you are not expecting, especially from external senders.
  • External Email: The message was sent from noreply@mg.tradingsim.com.
  • Unusual Format: It is not standard practice for printers and scanners to attach word documents containing download links.
