Voice Message
This email below has been confirmed as malicious or fraudulent by the Information Security department. If you have received this phishing email, do not open any attachments or follow the link(s) in the message; simply delete the email. This phishing email presents itself as a voice message notification from a VoIP service, attempting to lure the recipient into clicking on a malicious link by claiming they have a missed call record. The email uses deceptive tactics, including a seemingly legitimate “Play” button that directs to a malicious link and an attempt to impersonate an official UTHSCSA message.
Red Flags:
- External Email Address: The sender’s email is from an unfamiliar domain, “grupogarces.net,” which does not match the purported source (UTHSCSA).
- Malicious Link: The “Play” button links to a potentially dangerous site instead of a legitimate voice message.
- Impersonation: The email falsely claims to be from UTHSCSA, using a forged footer to appear authentic.
