IT Service Timely Notification or IMS Service Request

This email below has been confirmed as malicious or fraudulent by the Information Security department. If you have received this phishing email, do not open any attachments or follow the link(s) in the message; simply delete the email.

This email has a couple red flags.

Always be careful when the email greeting is generic. When someone wants you to do something, they will address you specifically.

The threat to permanently delete your account, for not responding to emails from IT Admin, is used to rush the recipient into quickly making a decision without thoroughly analyzing or checking with the IT Service Desk to see if this is actually coming from them.

Never open an attachment on an email you were not expecting; it could download a virus or ransomware to your device. This attachment has a “link” the sender asks the recipient to copy and paste into a browser. The link goes to a credential harvesting site and if the recipient puts in their username and password, the bad actor then steals the recipient’s password.
