- Emotional Manipulation: The story of a grieving widow donating her late husband’s belongings is a classic sympathy tactic designed to lower your guard and make you feel that it would be rude or heartless to question it.
2. Too Good To Be True: High-value items being given away for free (only requiring “shipping costs”) is a well-known scam setup. The “shipping costs” are how they will steal your money or payment information.
3. Vague and Unverifiable: There is no verifiable sender identity, such as an organization or institution. Also, “Salina CA” is suspicious because Salina is a city in Kansas, not California.
4.Suspicious Contact Method: Redirecting you to communicate via personal text message moves the conversation off any monitored or traceable platform. This tactic is used to avoid detection.
