“Your username” – “An old password” [[Extortion/Scareware/Ransomware]]

This email below has been confirmed as malicious or fraudulent by the Information Security department. If you have received this phishing email, do not open any attachments or follow the link(s) in the message; simply delete the email.

An e-mail scam is making the rounds with “your” username and an old password in the subject line.  The information is actually from a recent data breach where old University credentials were used with some other web site or service.  The message claims they have videos of “you” watching pornography and threatens to forward the videos to friends and family if a BitCoin payment isn’t made.  There are variations in the sender and minor variations in the body of the message, but the claimed threat is basically the same.  Feel free to delete the message.
