Parenting Classes

Workforce Solutions offers free/low cost parenting classes in the Alamo Region, including Bexar county and surrounding rural counties.

Ascension DePaul Services for pregnant individuals and those that have children under 36 months of age. Through this program you can receive material assistance, counseling, classes and guidance.

Veronica’s Boutiquez– is a free program for pregnant and parenting families that provide parenting education and material assistance for children 0-36 months.

Diapers

Texas Diaper Bank combines diaper assistance, incontinence assistance, and healthy woman period programs into one easy delivery. Clients receive a scheduled quarterly supply of essentials for each enrolled service.

A New Life for a New Generation is a non-profit designed to help parents and guardians with material assistance such as diapers and wipes. Available for parents who are pregnant or have children 36 months.

Latched offers a program for expectant mothers and parents of children aged 0-36 months that offers free diapers and essential supplies.

A Brighter Day offers diapers and other baby supplies donated by the community to parents.

Baby feeding and Nutrition

The San Antonio Lactation Support Center, formerly known as Baby Café, is a place where breastfeeding mothers and pregnant individuals can go to learn, socialize, participate in a support group, receive free individual counseling for breastfeeding, or just speak to a health professional about infant feeding in a non-clinical café style environment. Sessions are held at various locations throughout San Antonio.

WIC Breastfeeding – Texas WIC, Texas Health and Human Services provides breastfeeding help and information.

Texas WIC is supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children –  for pregnant, breastfeeding individuals and families with children younger than 5 years of age.

The San Antonio Food Bank offers free classes for all ages to improve healthy eating, provides a child-feeding program, and provides food assistance and food distribution.

A Woman’s Haven provides ultrasound and pregnancy testing, material assistance and community referrals.

Child Care

Family Service Association of San Antonio, Inc. provides a preschool program for low income children 6 weeks to 5 years old. Services are also available for children with disabilities. Families must reside in Northside, North East, or Judson school districts. Children under foster care or Child Protective Service care are also accepted.

Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA) Child Care Services (CCS) provides childcare scholarship assistance to eligible families throughout the Alamo Region.

Texas Child Care Solutions serves as a hub for resources for child development, positive behavior support, and school readiness.

Child Care Aware of America provides information on choosing and affording quality child care.

Care.com can be used by logging in with your UT Health San Antonio credentials and enroll. Once enrolled, members can access all the Care.com benefits as well as post jobs for needed services and access a network of background-checked caregivers. Members can also download the Care.com app for future use.

Texas Childcare Connection provides a mapping search tool to help you find child care in your area. You can search for child by ZIP Code or a specific address.

San Antonio Community Resource Directory has several resources for child care, goods, housing, transit and employment resources.

Housing

Guadalupe Home is a transitional shelter for pregnant and parenting mothers and their babies who find themselves homeless and are interested in full-time education enrollment or employment.

Magdalena House provides a safe and nurturing home, a community of supportive relationships, and education and programming. Women and their children in transitional housing receive wraparound services and 24/7 support in a home-like environment, full of hope and accountability. Families participate in parental coaching, peer enrichment classes, and counseling.

Visitation House provides supportive services to those who are expecting homelessness or at risk.

SAMMinistries provides rental assistance, utility assistance and supportive services to individuals and families who are in imminent danger of eviction, or are currently homeless.

UT Health San Antonio Student Life Dept. holds a long list of different housing options.

Employment Assistance

Goodwill Good Career Center provides free career assistance to anyone seeking employment or a new career.

Workforce Solutions Alamo has connections with companies looking to hire and resources to help with your job search.

Texas Workforce Commission is the state agency charged with overseeing and providing workforce development services to employers and job seekers of Texas.

Medical Services

Healthy Texas Women provides low-income women with gynecological exams, related health screenings and birth control through Texas Medicaid.

Healthy Start provides virtual and home visitation services to pregnant individuals until the baby turns 18 months of age.

Family and Children Services through Catholic Charities program providing first-time mothers valuable knowledge and support throughout pregnancy and until their baby reaches 24 months old.

KidsHealth provides doctor-approved  health information about children from before birth through adolescence.

Transportation

Medical Transportation Program provides nonemergency transportation to the doctor, dentist, hospital, pharmacy, and other places that provide covered health care services for clients who have no other transportation options.

VIA Reduced Transportation Fares a VIA Reduced Fare ID or Student ID is required and must be presented when boarding in order to pay reduced fares or use discounted passes

Wellness

YMCA- Greater San Antonio has a ChildWatch program that provides our members with the opportunity to pursue their own health and well-being, knowing that their children are safe, secure, and cared for in a positive environment. We invite families to utilize ChildWatch and Kids Club twice per day with a 2-hour limit per visit.

Student Parents Empowered vision is for student parents to have every opportunity to succeed in college. They offer counseling and support groups.

UT Student Counseling Center where you can talk with some by making an appt or they take walk-ins for emergencies.
