Summary

Pharmacy and dental students work collaboratively in a geriatric surgical clinic to provide care to patients with complex medical and dental needs. The activity provides increased clinical knowledge and skill in post-surgical pain management and increased student competencies in clinical IPE behaviors through participation in this novel clinical IPE activity. In 2021, ten pharmacy students and 24 dental students participated. Students collaboratively reviewed patient dental and medical histories and medications before clinic, interviewed the patient as a team, created individualized postoperative pain management plans and provided post-surgical medication counseling.
