From the LINC Director
“Many hands make light work.” –John Heywood, 1546
The 2020 LINC Report, Going Far Together, highlighted early successes achieved within the university’s Quality Enhancement Plan, Linking Interprofessional Networks for Collaboration (LINC), and signaled UT Health San Antonio’s long-term commitment to advancing interprofessional education (IPE) through infrastructure development. The report was named after the proverb that inspired it: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
To go far, the architects of LINC envisioned an incubator wherein interprofessional teams would develop IPE activities, integrate them into curricula, and elevate campus-wide knowledge of IPE while sharing experiences nationally through scholarship. In the time since the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) approved this design in 2018, a growing list of strategically aligned teams has been hard at work building sustainable programs and projects to achieve this vision.
The 2021 LINC Report highlights stakeholder transitions and increasing capacity for integrating IPE into curricula via university-wide implementation of national consensus guidelines, as well as educational programming and collaborative scholarship. If one were to consider our SACSCOC-approved plan an experiment, and the summation of work to date as evidence, then we can confidently add LINC to the long list of examples supporting the universal truth captured by the proverb “Many hands make light work.”
After three years as LINC Director, I am proud to celebrate the success of over 60 dedicated stakeholders who have collectively incubated many novel ideas into impactful IPE programming and scholarship. In July 2022, this work was recognized nationally with the Award for Institutional Excellence and Innovation in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Health Care by the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions. The graph below highlights the scholarly achievements that contributed to this incredible honor, as well as our potential in the years to come. For a more granular look, I would encourage you to explore the LINC Scholarship pages of our website.
