J-1 Exchange Visitors

UT Health San Antonio is an official program sponsor for the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program as authorized by the U.S. Department of State. The broad purpose of the J-1 program is to promote international educational and cultural exchange, in order to develop mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries.

Define

UT Health San Antonio is authorized to issue DS-2019’s for the following J-1 categories. The department will consult with OIS to choose the most appropriate category depending on the activities involved, duration of the program, and other related factors.

New Scholars

If a department has agreed to sponsor you for a J-1 visa, make sure to work closely with your department contact to obtain a DS-2019 from our office. We have also included information on next steps to prepare for your arrival at UT Health San Antonio.

Current Scholars

It is your responsibility to maintain your J-1 status. Make sure to communicate with OIS any changes to your program. If you have any questions, it is important to reach out to us in advance of taking action.

Departure

As your J-1 program end date approaches, make sure to contact our office to notify us of your departure and familiarize yourself with options after program completion. We also hope that you stay in contact with us so that we can celebrate your future successes.
